I did it - I bought the Abarth :D
I test drove a few Abarth hatchbacks in Denver - couldn’t find one that I liked in the price range I was comfortable with. I browsed Autotrader and craigslist for 2 months, and I found a 2014 Abarth Convertible GQ Edition in Utah. I bought it sight unseen - it has 9000 miles, so any issues should be covered by warranty, and it looked spotless in photos.
I am flying over there next Saturday with my buddy to pick it up, and we’ll drive it back to Denver together.
I know it will be a bit softer, and I know it won’t be quite as loud as an Abarth hatch - both issues should be easy enough to remedy with aftermarket. Paperwork is in the mail, I am getting it tomorrow, I’ll send it back overnight, and should be able to just walk in the dealership, pick it up, and drive back. I am super excited :D :D

Awesome! Love the Abarths. Thinking about getting one down the line but probably gonna hold off in hope they actually release a 500x Abarth

I still need to drive one of those. Might be a later trade for the Cooper S.

Thanks dude! GQ is way nicer inside - alcantara on the seat middle with leather around is exactly what I wanted ever since I sat in an Audi S4 once. I like the regular Abarth steering wheel better, but oh well :)

The way things are going for Fiat...I wouldn’t bet the farm on it

I make no warranty to your experience but I bought a 1992 MR2 turbo online. I live in StL and the car was in Kansas City. I took the Amtrak out, he met me at the train station. We went to his bank to pick up the title and I drove home. It was actually a really cool experience.

Cooper S is probably better car in every subjective aspect. Shit eating grin this car gives me...my buddy has a 2012 Audi TTRS, and it is a beast, but Abarth makes me smile more

Cool! I wish mine had been an Abarth. It was still a fun little car.

Considering the prototype exists, it’s possible. But there were also prototype Journey Srt out there so who knows.

Awesome where you gonna take it for its maiden voyage? I did clear creek canyon to Loveland pass in my Miata when I got it.

If you ever need a dealer for repairs, the Mike Ward guys are awesome and surprisingly affordable.

I am driving it from Salt Lake City to Denver. I might chose to go on route 40 instead of all the way on big highways. That will be a great maiden voyage I think.

Thanks! I live super close to Fiat of Denver, but I like saving money if I can :).

Gorgeous ride! I hope to have a 500 of my own at some point! Abarths will probably be out of my price range though, so I’d be happy with a Sport! :)

You’ll have to report back if you go there. I don’t live by any of them but Fiat of Denver said it would take a whole day for an oil change and spark plugs when I called...ain’t nobody got time for that.

I don’t know if you checked prices recently, but you can buy an Abarth for like $12k, maybe even less if you are OK with higher mileage.

nice one!

You can buy one for $12K in the US perhaps, they are still closer to $20,000 used (I usually see them for sale around $16-19K, depending on mileage) up here in Canadialand....they’re also much less common where I live in Nova Scotia, sadly. We’ve only got one FIAT dealership in the entire province in Halifax, and it’s an 40-6o mins away from me. :(
I’ve only seen 2 Abarths in person (one “lives” around me), but a fair number of Sports, Lounges, 500Cs and Pops. And 1 500 Turbo...
That being said, I regularly see Sports/Lounges/Pops, etc. on Kijiji and AutoTrader for close to $10K CDN and sometimes under. Here’s a 500 Turbo near me for $15K (although the ad is labelled wrong):

Been a huge fan of the cars since I saw them on Top Gear in ‘07! :)

Au, famous “ our cars cost so much more for no good reason in Canada” syndrome. With that much of a price difference, it might even make sense to import one - they are built in Mexico, I think that makes it easier to import

Thanks!! I swapped the steering wheel and the exhaust with OEm abarth, have a set of Magneti Morelli wheels on the way, changed badges, installed a short shifter, new pedals...I love her :)

For some reason, I now want one of these...

Have you driven one? She puts a bigger smile on my face than a tt-rs, WRX, STi, or any other car I've driven. Sound she gives out at low speeds is amazing, and I giggle every time she backfires. Used ones can be had with low miles for around 15k - heck even as new 500C Abarths sell for under $20k. Best grins per dollar on the market IMHO.
